Another project of mine was an animation about the novel „Der Steppenwolf“ by Hermann Hesse. The book tells the story of a lonely, unhappy man named Harry Haller who then searches for a change in his life to overcome his misery. When I first read the book I was really fascinated by his figurative language and it immediately created pictures in my head. I was also generally drawn to the whole theme of the book. Not because I am a middle aged man during his midlife crisis, but because he describes the feeling of alienation and isolation so well. And I feel like it is something we can all relate to from time to time. Unfortunately the book is often seen more as a „boring“ school assignment, especially among younger people. So my motivation behind the animation was to make people curious about the novel again.
